THE BENEFITS OF CARBON CREDITS FOR BUSINESSES

Currently, there are 58 countries worldwide that have developed carbon markets, 27 countries implementing carbon taxes, and several nations adopting both approaches. The advantages that carbon credits offer to enterprises include:

- Providing a new economic resource: It is estimated that 57 million carbon credits can be sold to international organizations. Currently, in Vietnam, the price for one carbon credit is $5 USD, which presents an opportunity for substantial annual revenue for businesses participating in the carbon credit market. - Enhancing multinational cooperation: Approximately 80 countries and territories are either applying or planning to implement carbon pricing tools, with a total potential tradeable greenhouse gas equivalent reaching up to 12 billion tons of CO2, accounting for around 22.3% of the total global greenhouse gas emissions.

- Promoting tree planting and forest development: The carbon credit trade in forestry will create sustainable financial resources for the protection, restoration, and enhancement of existing natural forests. In Vietnam, since mid-2021, Quang Nam has become the first locality in the country authorized by the government to pilot the export of forest carbon credits. Specifically, in 2021, it sold 1.2 million tons of CO2 (equivalent to 1.2 million credits), with an average annual sale projected at 0.8 million tons of CO2 by 2025, potentially rising to 1.2 million tons of CO2 per year afterward.

- Encouraging the use of clean energy and renewable resources: The development of renewable energy is a crucial solution to address the global climate change challenges currently faced.
