Vietnam is a country with advantages in agricultural exports, ranking among the top 15 largest agricultural exporters in the world and second in Southeast Asia.
To meet the stringent criteria of modern consumer trends and satisfy export market demands, the approach of adopting smart agriculture and adhering to green standards in agricultural products is a new direction that will strengthen and promote sustainable market growth.
Vietnam is among the top 15 largest agricultural exporters globally and ranks second in Southeast Asia.
So, what has Vietnam done to meet the new standards of the market and enhance the value of Vietnamese agricultural products?
- One of the standout solutions is the electronic traceability system, implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
- This system has been piloted on dragon fruit in Binh Thuan, allowing consumers to scan QR codes to trace the origin of the plants, learn about the carbon emissions at each stage of production, the level of “green practices,” monitor and manage emission levels, and reduce barriers in the export process, among other benefits.
- Additionally, the agricultural sector has allocated quotas for three sectors: crop production, livestock, forestry, and land use, alongside implementing projects such as organic agriculture development, circular agriculture, and creating carbon credits or reducing carbon emissions from these three sectors.
These solutions not only protect the environment and enhance the value of agricultural products but also contribute to building a solid foundation for the long-term development of the agricultural sector amid globalization.
